The short answer
For exact limits on any plan, with history and credits, use Claude Monitor. To see how heavy each conversation is, use Claude Usage Tracker. For a simple bar above the chat with messages remaining, Claude Usage Meter. For Claude and Codex together, AI Usage Tracker.
We make Claude Monitor, so read this with that in mind. Every other extension here is described from its own Chrome Web Store listing, and we say so where we have not tested a claim ourselves.

Each extension in brief
Claude Usage Tracker
The most installed by far. It works differently from the rest: instead of reading Claude's official limits, it estimates how many tokens each conversation uses, counting files, project knowledge and history, and shows that inside the chat. Because it does not depend on the usage page, it works on any plan.
Pick it if you want to know how heavy a single conversation is. Pick something else if you want the exact percentages Claude itself reports.
ClaudeKarma
A popup tracker that reads the official limits and goes deep on them: per-model weekly caps, extra usage credits with balance, Claude Code routines, alerts at 75%, 90% and 100%, a two-ring toolbar badge, a usage heatmap and a peak-hours indicator.
Pick it if you prefer a popup over an in-page bar and want peak-hours info.
Claude Usage Meter
Puts a bar above the claude.ai chat box with the official session and weekly limits, per-model caps, configurable alerts and messages remaining. It follows claude.ai's theme and is open source.
Pick it if you only need the numbers while you type and do not care about history or credits.
Claude Usage Tracker: Chat Export
Shows usage in a sidebar inside claude.ai and adds conversation export to Markdown, HTML or ZIP. It is translated into 12 languages.
Pick it if exporting chats matters as much as tracking usage, or if you prefer a language other than English.
AI Usage Tracker: Claude & Codex
Tracks Claude together with Codex and other AI tools, with an overlay and a badge showing your highest usage. Open source and updated often.
Pick it if you split your work between Claude and other coding assistants.
Claude Monitor
Our extension. It reads the official limits and shows the 5-hour session, weekly limit, per-model caps, extra usage credits with prepaid balance and Claude Code routine runs, with a countdown to every reset, alerts at 80% and 95%, and 30 days of history you can export. An optional bar shows the same numbers above the chat box, and on the Free plan, where claude.ai no longer shows usage, it reads the limits from each reply. No telemetry, no servers, MIT licensed, for Chrome and Firefox. It does not count tokens per conversation, export chats or track other AI tools, and it is English only for now.
Pick it if you want the full picture of your limits in one place, on any plan, with nothing leaving your browser.
How we compared them
We searched the Chrome Web Store for "claude usage", "claude limit", "claude usage tracker" and "claude tracker", took the top ten results of each, and kept the six with the most users that track Claude's limits. Features come from each listing's description and, where the code is public, from the source. Anything a listing does not mention is marked "Not stated". If you maintain one of these extensions and something here is wrong or out of date, open an issue and we will fix it.

Questions
What is the most popular Claude usage tracker?
Claude Usage Tracker, with about 100,000 Chrome users as of October 2026. It estimates token use per conversation rather than reading Claude's official limits. Among trackers that read the official session and weekly limits, ClaudeKarma (about 20,000 users) and Claude Usage Meter (about 10,000) are the largest.
Which Claude usage tracker works on the Free plan?
Since August 2026 claude.ai shows no usage to Free accounts, so trackers that only read the usage page show nothing there. Claude Usage Tracker works on Free because it estimates tokens. Claude Monitor reads the official limits from each reply once its optional bar is on. Claude Usage Meter and Chat Export list Free support; we have not tested them on a Free account.
Are Claude usage tracker extensions safe?
Check three things before installing one: whether the code is open source, what the privacy policy says about sending data off your device, and which permissions it asks for. An extension that only needs to read your limits has no reason to read your conversations or send them to a server.
Do usage trackers count against my Claude limits?
Reading the usage figures does not use any of your session or weekly limit. Trackers read the same data claude.ai's own settings page loads; they do not send messages to Claude.
