Why it's safe, in detail

Two reasons it's safe: it does very little, and there is almost nothing to exploit.

Safe to install

  • Minimal permissions

    Two permissions, storage and alarms, to save data locally and run a refresh timer, plus access to claude.ai to read your usage. Chrome grants that access for all of claude.ai, and turning on the optional bar adds scripting so it can run on claude.ai pages. No cookies permission, no tabs, no other website.

  • Read-only requests to five usage paths

    By default the code makes read-only GET requests to five claude.ai usage paths. Chrome's access covers all of claude.ai, and with the optional bar on the extension also runs on claude.ai pages, so what keeps it to those requests is the public source, signed releases and store review.

  • It never keeps your content

    By default the extension never runs inside a page. The optional usage bar scans each reply only for the usage figures, and your prompts, replies, projects and files are never stored or sent anywhere.

  • Read-only by design

    Every request is a GET. It never sends a message, changes a setting or spends any of your quota.

  • Everything stays on your device

    Usage data lives in your browser's local storage: no account, no server, no sync. No analytics, no telemetry, no third parties.

Nothing to exploit

  • Your session, never your secrets

    It uses the claude.ai session your browser already has, the same way claude.ai's own usage page does: the browser attaches the cookie to each request, and with no cookies permission the extension cannot read its value. Details in SECURITY.md.

  • No remote code

    Every line ships inside the package; nothing is downloaded or run dynamically, exactly as Manifest V3 requires.

  • No injection surface

    Data from the API is shown as plain text, never as HTML, so a malformed response can't execute anything.

  • Unreachable from the web

    No website can message the extension or load its files. The outside attack surface is effectively nil.

  • Open and verifiable

    100% open source, MIT licensed, and unminified. Read every line that runs in your browser, then decide.

How Claude's limits work, and what this extension can (and can't) see.

How do I check my Claude usage limits?

On paid plans Claude shows them at claude.ai/settings/usage. This extension keeps them in view instead: a color-coded badge in your toolbar, the full breakdown (session, weekly, per-model caps, credits, routine runs) one click away, and an optional bar above the chat box. It refreshes on its own. Every place Claude itself shows them is in our guide on how to check your Claude usage.

Can I see my usage limits on the Claude Free plan?

Not on claude.ai: since August 2026 its usage page shows nothing for Free accounts. The limits still come back with every reply, though. Turn on this extension's usage bar and it reads them each time you send a message, so the popup, the badge and the alerts work on Free too. More in our Free plan guide.

Does Claude have a weekly limit?

Yes. On top of the rolling 5-hour session window, Claude has a weekly limit shared by all models, plus separate weekly caps for any model Anthropic limits on its own. Each resets on its own schedule, and the extension shows a live countdown for every one.

What is Claude's 5-hour limit?

Claude meters usage in a rolling 5-hour session window that starts with your first message. The extension shows how much of the current window you have used and counts down to the exact reset, so a cutoff never lands mid-conversation.

When does the Claude weekly limit reset?

Once a week, at a fixed time assigned to your account. claude.ai shows the next reset in Settings > Usage, and the extension shows the exact date and a live countdown for every limit. More in our guide on when the Claude usage limit resets.

Will it warn me before I hit a Claude limit?

Yes. It sends a desktop notification when your session, weekly or per-model usage crosses 80%, and again at 95%: one alert per threshold per reset window, never a stream. You can change the thresholds or turn alerts off in Settings.

I use Claude Code. Does this show my limits?

Yes. On Pro and Max plans Claude Code draws from the same five-hour session and weekly limits as claude.ai, so what you use in the terminal shows up in the extension, with a countdown to each reset. Can the extension read my chats?
